Texas dad wanted in possible ‘honor killing’ of daughters may be hiding in New York City as taxi driver: private investigator

Egyptian immigrant killed both girls for dating non-Muslim men, authorities say

Yaser Abdel Said, 50, is accused of shooting his two daughters in what is described as a possible ‘honor killing.’ A private investigator believes he may be hiding out in New York City as a taxi driver.

Yaser Abdel Said, 50, is accused of shooting his two daughters in what is described as a possible ‘honor killing.’ A private investigator believes he may be hiding out in New York City as a taxi driver.

An alleged killer may be at the wheel of a New York City taxi cab.

A private eye searching for Yasir Said, a Texas man accused of gunning down his teenage daughters for dating non-Muslim boys, says he suspects the fugitive is driving a hack.

“It’s all he knows and I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if he’s there working as a taxi driver,” Bill Warner told FOX News. “He could blend in at a metropolis like New York.”

An Egyptian immigrant, Said was placed on the FBI’s most-wanted list after the alleged “honor killing” of daughters Amina, 18, and Sarah Said, 17, on New Year’s Day in 2008.

They were found slain in a cab that Said had borrowed.

Warner, who works for Said’s sister-in-law, said the suspected double murderer fled Dallas with his passport and $9,000 — but doesn’t believe he left the country.

Sarah Yaser Said, 17, and Amina Yaser Said, 18, in his taxi and abandoning it in a parking lot, leaving them to die.

It’s more likely Said sought shelter with his brothers and other relatives who live in New York, he said.

“The brothers are really tight, so it’s likely they assisted him in some way,” said Warner, who says he found a post office box in Westchester County under the names of Said and his brother.

While the Taxi and Limousine Commission requires criminal background checks for anyone applying for a hack license, Said could easily rent a licensed car under the table, Fernando Mateo, president of the New York State Foundation of Taxi Drivers, told FOX News.

“There are 10,000 illegal drivers in New York City,” he said. “It’s as easy as getting in your car and driving to the airport or picking up illegal street hails.”

The FBI has so far declined to discuss their search for Said or weigh in on Warner’s suspicions.

Said, believed to be either 50 or 55, is described as 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, with a mustache and dark sunglasses that he wears both indoors and out. He smokes Marlboro Light 100 cigarettes and likes to nosh at Denny’s and I-Hop restaurants.

“Additionally, Said is known to carry a handgun in his taxi cab at all times,” the poster warns. “It has also been reported that Said always carries a weapon with him, to include knives.”

There have been several reported honor killings in recent years among Muslim immigrants who feared their daughters or wives were becoming too “Americanized.”

Three years ago, the Pakistani-born founder of a Muslim-oriented Buffalo TV station beheaded his wife after she served him with divorce papers.

Experts, however, say the horrific practice has nothing to do with Islam. Rather, it is rooted in the conservative tribal societies from which murder suspects like Said emerged.

Chuck Brown packs them in one last time

By  and Hamil Harris

Hundreds of Chuck Brown fans sporting Chuck Brown T-shirts and chatting about their favorite Chuck Brown concert memories descended Thursday morning on the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the go-go godfather’s last show, his public memorial service.

Many fans said they took the day off or told their bosses white lies about where they were. In one case, a secretary brought along her boss, Tony Cade, who said he is Brown’s godson.

The hordes of fans, devoted enough to know that what you wear to a Chuck Brown event matters, tried outdoing each other by wearing the most Chuck Brown-centric outfits they could. Anthony Gooding, in fact, may have won on that score: As he tried finding a spot in line, people stopped Gooding to snap photos of his T-shirt — a black, Mario Puzo-themed “Godfather of Go-Go” garment.

“I’m the celebrity here,” he said with a smile.

Most of those interviewed said they came because Brown’s musicevoked powerful recollections from their childhood: the time they sneaked into a club as a teenager to hear him play, or the times that Brown’s music boomed from neighbors’ porches and everyone just partied outside, as a community.

Brown got sick in early March and died May 16 at age 75. The line of mourners Thursday morning was deep enough that it snaked about halfway around the convention center, from the Mount Vernon Place NW entrance to Seventh Street, down to M Street and to Ninth Street. Some people brought lawn chairs and umbrellas. Others came on crutches, one woman hobbled around in a foot injury boot and another leaned on his cane. One person, among a seeming handful, carried a bouquet of flowers.

About noon, the memorial service kicked off with vocals, brass and a range of rhythm instruments in a rendition of a go-go version of “Can’t Nobody Do Me Like Jesus.” Brown’s body was resting in a gold-colored coffin perched amid a garden of flowers inside the convention center.

Brown’s longtime manager, Tom Goldfogle, said he wasn’t surprised at the large turnout.

“I expected to see thousands because he touched people across many generations,” Goldfogle said. “He touched everybody. He took the time to give everybody a word of encouragement, so I expected the people to be here.”

The schedule of speakers at the service included prominent radio personality Donnie Simpson; Mayor Vincent C. Gray; D.C. Council member Marion Barry; and D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton.

The fans were really coming for one person, though.

“Back in 1979, I was living on Third Street and T Northwest. My first apartment. I was 17. And everyone was playing Chuck on the front stoops. We had community,” said Fana Chisholm, 53, of Prince George’s County.

When Chisholm showed up at the convention center early Thursday morning, only a few others were there, she said. She added that she wondered, “Where were the other crazy fans to wait it out in the early morning?”

“I was worried,” she said. “Just a little bit. But then I thought, ‘It’s Chuck Brown.’ ” Soon, other early risers showed up, and Chisholm and the others among the first seven in line traded contact information for a get-together some other time.

One of those other seven was Rena Cooke-Jones, a retired administrative employee for the U.S. attorney’s office from Prince George’s. She came to show respect for Brown’s respect for women.

“If you went to a show, he demanded that the gentlemen respect women, and let them be up front at the show,” Cooke-Jones said. “If anybody got rowdy, he’d stop the concert.”

In the very back of the line was a pair of best friends from Suitland High School — Tasha Roberts, 40, a budget analyst at Andrews Air Force Base, and Seanglia Johnson, 40, a cosmetologist.

They figured they were 2,500th and 2,501st in line.

Why no Chuck Brown attire?

They shrugged. They wanted something more in keeping with a date night: long dresses with wide colorful stripes. Roberts wore a Marc Jacobs number. Johnson had on something she got from BCBG.

“When we were 13, we’d sneak into clubs to hear him play,” Johnson said. “It was electrifying. But there were no fights. No drama.”

It was Johnson’s idea to attend on Thursday. She called up Roberts to see whether she was game. Roberts nodded. “She said, ‘Oh, I’llbe there,’ ” Johnson said.

Roberts said she gave her bosses at the base a decent reason for taking off, using a word that suggested something was serious.

“I said, ‘I have an appointment,’ ” she said, keeping a straight face.

By 10 a.m., when the line finally started moving inside the building, the man waiting at the end was Cade, Brown’s godson. Cade said he wanted to bring his second wife, Yvette, to the service but she couldn’t get off work. It was Brown, he said, who helped counsel him through the divorce after his first marriage.

“Chuck told me, No matter how bad you want something, if the person is not on the same treadmill — as he called it — you have to go your own way,” Cade said.

Cade remembered that he was so eager to introduce Yvette to Brown that he tracked him down two years ago at a liquor store in Prince George’s where he knew Brown would be buying his lottery tickets. “I wanted him to see how happy I was,” Cade said. “That was the last time I saw him. So, there was no doubt I was going to be here today.”

Cricket Wireless to Offer Apple’s iPhone With Prepaid Plan On June 22nd

Cricket Wireless has just announced that it will start offering Apple’s iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 on its network from June 22nd.

Cricket Wireless will be the first carrier in the US to sell Apple’s iPhone with prepaid plans.

However, the no-contract plans means that customers will have to pay a higher upfront costfor Apple’s iPhone. The 16GB iPhone 4S will cost $499 and 8GB iPhone 4 will cost $399 with $55 per-month, all-inclusive unlimited talk, text and data plan. Cricket Wireless will throttle the speed after 2.3GB of data usage per month.

Here’s an excerpt from Cricket’s press release:

Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of innovative and value-driven wireless services, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Leap Wireless International, Inc., announced today that it will be the first pre-paid carrier in the US to offer iPhone to its customers. Beginning on Friday, June 22, Cricket will offer iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 with its $55 per-month, all-inclusive unlimited talk, text and data plan. [..]

[..] “Our customers want the best products available and we are excited to bring iPhone to our pre-paid consumers with an industry leading $55 per-month service plan,” said Doug Hutcheson, president and chief executive officer, Leap Wireless International, Inc. “Launching iPhone is a major milestone for us and we are proud to offer iPhone customers attractive nationwide coverage, a robust 3G data network and a value-packed, no-contract plan.”

The prepaid plan is available only to customers who have bought the iPhone from Cricket. Interested customers can provide their contact details on Cricket’s website.

Apple continues to expand the availability of the iPhone. Last month, six regional carriersstarted offering Apple’s iPhone, followed by three more regional carriers earlier in the month.

Cricket Brings iPhone to its Prepaid Network

By Ginny MiesPCWorld

Remember the days when you could only get the iPhone on AT&T? My, how things have changed. Cricket has announced that it will bring the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on its prepaid network. This is the first time the iPhone has been offered on a prepaid carrier.

That means you’ll have to shell out a little more for the iPhone since it won’t be subsidized. When the phones go on sale June 22, a 16GB iPhone 4S will cost $500 and an 8GB iPhone 4 will cost $400. Before your jaw drops at those prices, take into consideration how cheap Cricket’s plan is: $55 per month for unlimited voice, SMS and data. Calling the data unlimited is a little misleading, however: you must stay within Cricket’s fair usage policy of 2.3GB of data a month.

Since Cricket’s plan is prepaid, you won’t get slapped with surprise post-paid, usage-based fees as you might on a contract carrier. If the prepaid model appeals to you, but you’ve never been too thrilled with the current prepaid phones out there, this will be good news for you.

Mother of Miami ‘Cannibal’ Speaks Out

This combo made with undated photos made available by the Miami-Dade Police Dept. shows Rudy Eugene, 31, left, who police shot and killed as he ate the face of Ronald Poppo, 65, right, during a horrific attack in the shadow of the Miami Herald’s headquarters, May 26, 2012.

Despite surveillance video, eyewitness statements, and a victim clinging for life with more than 75 percent of his face chewed off, the family and girlfriend of Rudy Eugene are telling the world there is no way he could attack someone so viciously.

“I knew my son,” Eugene’s mother told ABC affiliate WPLG. “Rudy will never, never do something like that. Somebody killed him, and they just go and dump him.”

Police believe the meeting of Eugene and 65-year-old Ronald Poppo was a chance encounter that occurred after Eugene dumped his car in South Beach and walked 3½ miles across a causeway, stripping off his clothes in broad daylight before attacking Poppo. Some law enforcement officials believe the dangerous new street drug “bath salts” may have played a role in the attack. It could take weeks for toxicology results to come back, however, and there were no drugs found at the scene. Eugene’s mother, who once had a violent incident with her son that resulted in him becoming the first person tasered by North Miami police, believes he was drugged and dumped in the area where he encountered Poppo and felt threatened by him.

“When you are awake you are like a confused patient,” said Charles. “Whoever you see, you go and fight.”

Eugene’s girlfriend, who did not want to be identified also spoke with WPLG, and was with him early in the morning before the crime. She called him religious and says he told her he was leaving to visit a friend. She says she didn’t find out about the attack until the following morning and finds it hard to believe that the man she wanted to marry could commit such an act.

“He did not abuse drugs,” she said crying. “I don’t understand. Somebody did something to him…that wasn’t him.”

Eugene was shot and killed by police after they say their repeated pleas to get him to stop attacking Poppo were met with growls. Poppo, who once attended New York City’s elite Stuyvesant High School and dreamed of becoming president, remains in critical condition. If he survives the brutal attack, he has a long, perilous road to recovery, according to medical experts familiar with facial reconstruction. His eyes, nose, and most of his face were bitten, with one source telling ABC News he was left with little but a goatee.

“His acute situation needs to be stabilized first,” said Dr. David H. Song, chief of Plastic Surgery at University of Chicago Medical Center. “Human bites are notorious for infections and if his doctors can’t control it, he could lose more of his face. Whatever dead tissue remains needs to be removed down to healthy bleeding tissue.”

Surveillance video reveals that for 18 agonizing minutes Poppo was disrobed from the waist down, kicked, punched, and eaten alive before police shot Eugene four times. Poppo then sat up covered in blood as three paramedics on scene quickly got him onto a stretcher, put a neck brace on him, and rushed him to the emergency room. Doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Poppo is being treated, have been tight-lipped about his medical care citing privacy laws.

“After he is stabilized you could go several routes. He may need to have free tissue transfer. That’s a microsurgical free flap where you take a large area of vascular tissue from either the belly or the thigh. These areas have their own blood supply,” said Dr. Song. “Then you would have to reattach those arteries and veins to the arteries and veins in the face or near the neck.”

Those types of surgeries could take months to a year to perform.

Poppo could also be a candidate for a full face transplant that would take 18 to 20 hours, but he would first need a donor and lots of support.

“That is a huge investment for an institution and society,” said Song. “Although the face transplant patients may look good the downside is they will have to be on expensive immune suppressive medications so that his body does not reject another person’s face for the rest of his life. The cost can be hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Someone is going to have to give him medication. He would also have to have good social support, psychiatric support. It’s a huge production.”

According to reports, Poppo’s family assumed he was dead until the vicious attack made headlines around the world. The homeless man lived under a bridge near where he was attacked and has no money and no insurance. For the face transplant to work he would have to be placed on a strict regimen.

For now, his doctors continue to fight to save his life. His family, Eugene’s family, South Florida and the rest of the world continue to question how anything like this could happen.

Rihanna May Be Dating NY Knick JR Smith

By  Mack Rawden

Rumor has it pop star Rihanna has set her sights on a new man and surprise surprise, he’s not a quiet homebody. The dude in question is twenty-six-year-old New York Knicks star JR Smith. The shooting guard first rose to prominence in 2004 when he won the Most Valuable Player Award at the McDonald’s All-American Game. He declared for the draft not long after and went eighteenth overall to the Hornets. Moments of brilliance and charges of shooting too much followed, but nonetheless, Smith has carved out a reputation as a reliable scorer and a bit of a ladies man.

Earlier this year, he was fined twenty-five thousand dollars for posting this picture (NSFW) of model Tahiry’s butt on Twitter, and now he’s apparently drawn the attention of Rihanna. According to The New York Daily News, the pop star and the ball player have been enjoying each other’s company for weeks, and they reportedly hung out and flirted over the weekend in Miami just a day after he was arrested for driving without a valid license.

Given the lack of time these two have spent together, it’s unclear whether this relationship is one of fun and mutual attraction or full of potential for something greater, but we should know by whether they continue hanging out together or not. If they do, Pop Blend sends out its well-wishes to the pair. If they don’t, maybe they’ll each go for someone a little bit less famous the next time around.

MATTHEW FOX I Never Beat Any Women

Sources directly connected to Matthew Fox tell TMZ … the actor has never beaten a woman in his life, contrary to the allegations made by his “Lost” co-star Dominic Monaghan.

As you know, Monaghan tweeted the allegation, claiming Matthew “beats women. not isolated incidents.often …”

Our sources say Fox and Monaghan have not spoken for years, and they never had any sort of blowout argument so it’s baffling to Fox as to why Dominic would go on such a rant.

A female bus driver accused Fox last year of punching her in her vagina. Fox denied the allegation and no criminal charges were filed.

Jessica Simpson Shows Off Baby Girl Maxwell on People Magazine

The fashion designer and her fiancé reveal a family photo album in the latest issue.

Jessica Simpson and her fiance Eric Johnson’s brand new baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson, is less than a month old but she’s already on the cover of People magazine.

The former singer-turned-fashion businesswoman is shown holding Maxwell, who weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces when she was born via C-section on May 1. Meanwhile, an adorably sleepy Max looks precious in a white dress with a matching headband.

So what’s being a new mommy like?

“My life has completely changed,” Simpson says. “From how I sleep to what I think about, Maxwell has definitely taken over everything!,” she said, adding, ‘We stare at her all the time. We can’t get enough!”

Simpson admits that nursing her hungry girl is a “full-on job.”

“It’s the worst if I have to pump and give Eric a bottle to give her. I miss holding her and having that closeness,” she says.

According to reports, the magazine shelled out $800,000 for the exclusive first baby photos — way less than the $6 million reportedly paid to Jennifer Lopez for her twins,Max and Emme. And not anywhere close to the $14 million Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made for twins Vivienne and Knox.

Simpson has already launched a line of maternity clothing and during her pregnancy, she posed topless (a la Demi Moore) on the cover of Elle magazine.

Miami cannibal zombie-like attack linked to powerful ‘bath salts’ drug

Miami cannibal attack victim picture

Ronald Poppo, left, was the victim of a horrific cannibal attack at the hands of Rudy Eugene, Miami police said Tuesday.

The man who committed a zombie-like cannibal attack in Miami may have been under the influence of a powerful drug concoction called ‘bath salts’.

Police have now identified the nude assailant who almost killed a homeless man over the weekend by trying to bite his face off, but said they did not know what provoked the bizarre and savage attack.

The aggressor, Rudy Eugene, 31, was shot dead by police who said he had devoured almost the entire face of his victim. Ronald Poppo, 65, who has been identified as the victim and was also naked during the attack, remains hospitalized and fighting for his life.

“We are expecting a report from our detectives to give more details to the media. We are also looking for more witnesses to this crime,” a Miami police spokesman said. “The victim remains in critical condition.”

Police initially said the attack could have been provoke by an overdose of a powerful new form of LSD mixed along with “cocaine psychosis.”

Reports however suggest Eugene was likely under the influence of the synthetic stimulant ‘bath salts’ made with the active agent mephedrone, which produces an often aggressive, chaotic experience for users, coupled with intense hallucinations.

Friends and acquaintances also told local media that Eugene was known as easygoing, a good friend with a winning smile, and were unaware of him having any mental or drug problems.

Authorities hope that the victim, if he survives, could help explain what precipitated the grisly attack.

“We’re hoping that he pulls through, for his well-being, but also so he can tell us what happened,” said Sergeant Javier Ortiz, vice president of the Miami police union. “Only he knows.”

Miami police yesterday released a photo of Poppo.

Vega flagged down a police officer, who he said repeatedly ordered the man to get off the victim. The attacker picked his head up and growled at the officer, Vega said.

Vega said the officer shot the attacker, who continued chewing the victim’s face. The officer fired again, killing the man.

A surveillance video camera from The Miami Herald building nearby captured images of the men’s naked legs lying side by side after the shooting.

Vega said the victim appeared gravely injured.

“It was just a blob of blood,” Vega said. “You couldn’t really see, it was just blood all over the place.”

According to reports, Eugene had been arrested eight times since he was 16, mostly on drug charges.

Pinterest users twice as likely to buy stuff than Facebook users

Pinterest users outshine those on Facebook when it comes to buying items they see posted on those respective sites, says a new poll.

Are you apt to buy an item you see pop up on Pinterest or Facebook?

Most of the Pinterest and Facebook users polled by marketing firm SteelHouse said that the sites play a key role in their online buying. But Pinterest users are twice as likely to buy items they see on the site than are Facebook users.

Drilling further, 59 percent of Pinterest users said they’ve already bought something they saw pinned on Pinterest. In comparison, 33 percent of Facebook folks said they’ve bought a product or service they saw on an ad, a news feed, or a friend’s wall.

Still, Facebook remains the top choice among consumers for generating ideas on what they’d like to buy. It’s also the No 1. social network for product sharing.

More than half (55 percent) of shoppers prefer to share news about their online purchase via Facebook. That compares with 22 percent for Twitter, 14 percent for Pinterest, 5 percent for Instagram, and only 3 percent for LinkedIn.

Moving beyond just Pinterest and Facebook, 98 percent of those polled said that online customer reviews are a major influence on their decision to buy a product or service.

A full 72 percent always read reviews before buying an item, while 26 percent sometimes read such reviews. And 83 percent take into account both the written comments and the star ratings, with half saying the lowest star rating they’d accept is three out of five.

To compile its results, SteelHouse conducted a national survey of 309 online shoppers.
