DRAKE: ‘I DEEM MYSELF THE FIRST PERSON TO SUCCESSFULLY RAP AND SING’

by: Amy Sciarretto

Drake

Humility, thy name is not Drake. The Canadian rapper, who is also Jewish on his mother’s side, is a big believer in his own talent, and he should be, since his albums debut at No. 1 and he has millions of fans, spread across both male and female fanbases.

His nasal delivery is unique and unlike anything else in his genre. But he made a pretty massive, full-of-hubris claim to The Jewish Chronicle, one that might infuriate his hip-hop brethren and peers.

While Drake did give props to his predecessors, saying, “There were people who incorporated melody before me,” he finished his statement by uttering the following words: “But I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing.”

Deeming yourself the first, huh?

Those superlatives are usually the accolades bestowed on an artist by critics, not by the artists themselves. There are also plenty artists in the history of the genre, many of which have come well before Drake, that have been able to successfully rap and sing, so Drake is most certainly not the first.

Drake also made another controversial claim in the feature, addressing the fact that he is young and doesn’t need to be committed or to be oh-so-serious at this point in his life. It’s a cavalier attitude for sure.

“I’m 25 and single,” the reported former flame of Rihanna said. “I’m not supposed to care about deeper things right now, I’m supposed to be wild. But there are nights when you sit back and wonder, ‘Damn, is this right?’”

It’s good to have fun, Drake, but it’s good to take stock of your life and put what’s important first. It’s always good to care about deep things, whether you are 25 or 85!

MEEK MILL DROPS ‘AMEN’ VIDEO FEAT. DRAKE

by: Trent Fitzgerald

Drake Meek Mill

Maybach Music Group rapper Meek Mill has released his new video for his controversial single ‘Amen’ on Sunday (July 15), a day of worship for most religious people. The clip, directed by Dre Films, features fellow rhyme-slingerDrake and the backdrop of Mill’s beloved hometown of Philadelphia.

In the video, Mill gives viewers a taste of the good life, which entails a night of popping champagne bottles in the club and hitting the road on the Club Paradise Tour with Drizzy. “Bottle after bottle / Drink until I overdose / Pull up in the Phantom and watch them catch the Holy Ghost,” spits Mill.

There are plenty of cameos in the clip from rappers J. ColeFat JoeTravis PorterWaka Flocka FlameJermaine Dupri and French Montana. We also get shots of various product placements in the video from Puma sneakers to Skull Candy headphones. We can only guess that they have tithed the Church of Mill for the quick looks.

Elsewhere, Mill and Drake give praises to the Almighty on the iconic steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art where Sylvester Stallone ran up in the movie ‘Rocky.’

Meek Mill will bless his congregation of rap fans with his debut LP ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ on Aug. 28. Amen!

Drake/Chris Brown: Injured Woman Sues Club; Lil Wayne Wants Peace

*A woman who says she was trampled during the brawl allegedly sparked by beef between Chris Brown and Drake has filed a lawsuit against the club where it took place, believing it should be held responsible for her injuries.

Vladimira “Ladi” Brace, 22, told DNAinfo.com she was celebrating a “girls night” with friends at the Hudson Square club W.I.P early Thursday when the champagne bottles started to fly. One minute she was looking for a friend, and the next she was being trampled as panicked clubgoers scrambled for the door, she said. “It all happened so fast, I didn’t even know what was going on,” she said.

Staten Island resident Vladimira Brace said she was trampled by the panicked crowd at the club WIP when mayhem broke out there June 14, 2012. (Facebook/Ladi Brace)

Brace, the 7th clubgoer to claim they were injured in the melee, said she will sue the celebrity hot spot after suffering a sore back, a badly bruised left hip and a numb toe on her left foot.

“I don’t blame Chris Brown or Drake at all, it just shouldn’t have happened,” she said. “The club should have had better security.”

Brace’s lawyer, Allan F. Friedman, said he has filed suit against the club. “We have a claim against the club for overcrowded conditions, lack of security and failure to follow fire code and liquor laws,” he said.

According to media reports and victims’ lawyers, the mayhem injured four other clubgoers, plus Brown, his bodyguard known as Big Pat and the NBA star Tony Parker.

As previously reported, police closed WIP Saturday for unspecified violations, and manager Jonathan Cantor was arrested Friday for violations related to the fire code and the control of alcoholic beverages. No one else has been arrested in connection to the incident, police said.

Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that Drake’s Young Money boss Lil Wayne and the rest of the crew want him to end his beef with Chris Brown, because the bad blood is bad for business.

Sources close to Drake tell TMZ that Brown has received several calls from Weezy, Birdman, Mack Maine and more urging the rapper to fix things with Brown, believing the rift will affect business — since Brown appears on several tracks with Young Money members.

TMZ reports: “We’re told Drake doesn’t want to reach out to Breezy until he knows CB doesn’t actually blame him for last week’s melee — despite what Brown’s lawyer has been saying … that Drake was one of the aggressors. We’re told Young Money’s on Drake’s side no matter what — but as one source put it, “Making money matters most.”

Drake was spotted leaving his hotel in Boston (June 17, 2012)

Judging from recent photos of Drake, it appears as if he has beefed up his security since the brawl.  Photos snapped of the rapper in Boston, and yesterday in Washington D.C. show him flanked by huge security guards.

Drake’s got a new kind of beef going on.

The 25-year-old rapper was spotted out in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday with a pair of bulky bodyguards by his side.

One stone-faced guard walked in front of the rapper, while a second musclar man followed just behind him throughout their daytime shopping trip.

Beefy bodyguards stood by Drake’s side on June 19.

Despite Drake’s show of muscle, the rapper mainly tried to keep his head down. Drake kept himself covered by a hooded sweatshirt, looking up only to say the fight hasn’t tainted his image.

“My image is good, man,” he told a TMZ cameraman.

The rapper has called in extra protection just days after being involved in a bloody, bottle-throwing brawl with Chris Brown inside a crowded Manhattan club

The fight broke out at Club W.i.P. in Manhattan on June 14 after Drake sent Brown a note stating he’s “still f—— Rihanna.” At least eight people were injured in the melee, including Chris Brown, who suffered a gash to his chin.

Now, it appears Drake is heavily armed on the off-chance any trouble comes his way.

Woman threatens to sue Chris Brown and Drake after being injured in brawl

Lucy Pavlovsky is currently seeking legal advice about a potential lawsuit

Woman threatens to sue Chris Brown and Drake after being injured in brawl

A woman has threatened to sue Chris Brown and Drake after she was injured during the pair’s fight at a New York club, according to reports.

Lucy Pavlovsky was sitting beside Brown in the VIP section of the W.I.P nightclub when the incident took place. She suffered a gash to her arm and required 12 stitches.

Javier Solano, a lawyer speaking on behalf of the victim, told gossip website TMZ that his client had been hit by a bottle and was later taken to hospital to receive a tetanus shot and stiches.

He added that his client had been interviewed by NYPD officers and planned to bring a lawsuit to the club but did not rule out that Brown or Drake could be included, saying: “At this moment we are exploring all options on who will become a defendant. I can assure you that regardless of fame, money or stature, the people responsible will be held accountable.”

It has previously been claimed that the fight began after Brown sent a bottle over to Drake’s table. The Toronto rapper then approached Brown and started arguing over Rihanna, Brown’s ex-girlfriend who Drake also had a short relationship with.

Mark Geragos, Chris Brown’s attorney, has claimed that he has evidence that Drake threw a bottle during the incident, while Brown posted a picture of his gashed chin on Twitter after the fracas along with a tirade of messages directed at Drake’s crew – although they have since been removed.

Drake, however, has denied his involvement in the fight, and said he was heading for the exits when the brawl broke out. A spokesman for the rapper said: “Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.I.P. He was on his way out when the altercation began.”

Drake to be Arrested for Throwing Bottle at Chris Brown

BY CLAUDIO E. CABRERA

Rapper is expected to be charged with reckless endangerment.

According to sources close to the New York Post, the NYPD will arrest rapper Drake for his role in the Club W.I.P. brawl that he sparked with Chris Brown and rapper Meek Mill.

Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, will reportedly be charged with reckless endangerment after witnesses told the NYPD that he hurled a bottle in the brawl. At the same time, the witnesses claimed the bottle didn’t hit anyone.

Sources told the Post if he doesn’t agree to surrender by early next week, he will be arrested tonight at his concert in Jones Beach.

The 25-year-old hip-hop star, who briefly dated Rihanna, drove Brown into a rage when his table sent over a note after Brown sent him a bottle as a peace offering. The note read: “I am f–king the love of your life.”

Chris Brown’s representatives claim that Drake started the fight while Drake’s camp says the opposite.

A source said Brown’s posse that night may have included members of the Crips street gang, which would violate the terms of his probation set after his 2009 attack on Rihanna.

“Drake’s lawyers and the police are looking into whether Chris Brown was hanging out with known gang members,” the source said.

But an attorney for Brown said Drake started the brawl.

“I have turned over evidence that it was Drake who instigated this. The evidence makes it clear that Chris is the victim in all of this,” said Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos.

“I believe the police are building a case against Drake and his thugs,” Geragos added. “Clearly, Drake was the instigator, and there is evidence he threw glassware.”

DRAKE TELLS GQ MAGAZINE: ‘THE MOOD OF RAP HAS CHANGED’

by: Daryl Nelson

Canadian Rapper and pop star Drake recently sat down with GQ Magazine to discuss the recent paradigm shift in hip-hop music and how being a tough-guy-rapper isn’t the musical be-all and end-all anymore. “Rap now is just being young and fly and having your s– together,” he said. “The mood of rap has changed.”

The ‘Take Care’ rapper was selected to be on one of three covers of the fashion magazne’s Style Bible issues. In the interview Drake touches on everything from the relationship with his dad to the challenges of relating to women in the same way he did prior to the fame and monetary success.

“I’m trying to find the same feelings that I had for women when I had very little going on, which is tough,” he explained. “When I was in my mom’s house, I had nowhere to go, no real obligations, my girlfriend at the time, if she was mad at me, my day was all f– up. I didn’t have anything else, and that made for some of the best music, I think, to date.”

The former childhood actor also explains how social media has changed fame among today’s entertainers compared to the stars of yesteryear, as he was among the first rappers to turn a constant myspace presence into a mainstream rap career.

“Some of my favorite rappers, some of my heroes, DJ Screw, Aaliyah, there might be like 200 pictures of them because there was no Internet,” he says. “Whereas with us, it’s like every moment is documented.”

Drake’s last album ‘Take Care’ is among the highest sellers of recent years, reaching 1,583,000 copies sold in the United States, so far.
